The Capital City Classic
The inaugural Capital City Classic pit the defending Colonial Valley Conference
Champion Notre Dame High School Fighting Irish Football team against the
Trenton Central Tornadoes on Thursday, September 23rd, at Father Nolan
Field, on the Notre Dame campus. The Irish proved to be a little too tough for
the Tornadoes, coming away with the victory. Proceeds from a pre-game
tailgate party and the Capital City Classic Meet and Greet were collected for the
CBF's Joe Rhym Memorial Scholarship and the Tony Mack Foundation
scholarship program.

The purpose for naming this game and holding this
banquet is not solely to raise money for two good
causes (the JRMS and a Tony Mack Foundation
Scholarship) but also to reconnect two institutions
and communities that have long traditions of service
to the Trenton community, pursuits of academic
excellence, and incredibly rich athletic traditions
verses one another that are the stuff of legends.
In this new millennium, it is the hope of The
Cinderblock Foundation and the Tony Mack
Foundation that this rivalry once again grow in
intensity, not so it can be remembered with
bitterness and animosity but because it can be a
reason for a celebration of brotherhood and
sisterhood and community. The thought that a
game, played by young men, could bring together
and unite a community in a spirit of giving is
certainly a goal worthy of the support of both
schools illustrious alumni and the community that
unites them.
