CBF Newsletter
June 6, 2006 Volume II, No. 1
Hello Everyone,
I hope this mailing finds each of you in good
health and having a wonderful year. We've already reached the 90s several
times here in Georgia. I am writing to update those of you who follow and
support The Cinderblock Foundation and Saquan Gore, our Joe Rhym Memorial
Scholar.
Saquan
has grown quite a bit, physically and intellectually, at Notre Dame, and we are
confident that ND is absolutely the right environment for him. He is
blossoming and transforming from a shy kid into a confident young man.
Last year The Cinderblock
Foundation raised over $3000 thanks to your generous support and we
hope to double our efforts this year and raise twice as much. The Foundation has identified another perspective
recipient and we would like to offer a second scholarship in the fall.
This would bring us halfway to our goal of four scholarship recipients, one in
each grade level.
So far this year, we have raised $1000, thanks to a very
generous donation from Carl Fuccello, an annual contributor to the JRMS.
In the coming months the Foundation
will be involved in several fundraising events.
The first event will take place on Sunday,
July 9th at the Six Flags theme park, Great Adventure. The
event is a concert featuring Disney Channel star, Raven Simone, from the show, That's
So Raven.
This event is a part of the new partnership formed by The
Cinderblock Foundation and the Boys and Girls Club of Trenton/Mercer
County. The Boys and Girls Club invited us to join them on this venture
and will split the proceeds with the foundation. Please see the website
for more information (www.cinderblockfoundation.org).
Email me at drhym@yahoo.com for a flyer to
purchase tickets for the event. Tickets are $35, which is discounted from
the normal $65 ticket and grants access to the theme park and the concert for
the entire day. The Boys and Girls Club and CBF receive $10 for
each ticket sold.
The second event this year is the 2nd Annual CBF Golf
Outing. We will be at Mercer Oaks again this year. The date is
Friday, August 25th. Flyers will be going out soon. We are looking
for players and sponsors.
This is an even numbered year, which means that Trenton
Central comes to Notre Dame for the big rivalry football game. We plan to
tailgate again before the game. The
victory cigars will smoked and the victory beverages sipped at Kevin Wortham’s
new establishment after the game--when ND is again victorious. This
year's event promises to be a lot of fun. The game is in October, flyers
will go out in August. If you live in the Trenton area please plan to
come out and give the Trenton folk a hard time at their inability to give my
alma mater a good game this millennium. As in 2004, there will be plenty
of food, adult beverage, and fellowship at the tailgate.
If there are any questions about the aforementioned events
or the scholarship please do not hesitate to call (706) 540-2260 or email (drhym@yahoo.com) and I will be more than
happy to answer all inquires.
Again, thanks to everyone for your support!
