Why CBF?
My name is Darren Rhym and I'm the founder and CEO of CBF.  Many years ago
when I attended Notre Dame High School I established relationships and learned
valuable lessons that helped me to develop character and create a strong sense of
self that has sustained me throughout my life.

I established CBF and CBF-South so that I could help to provide young students the
opportunity to have the same kinds of awesome experiences that I had as a high
school student.

The Cinderblock Foundation is a nonprofit organization that introduces students to
academic environments that will stimulate them intellectually and socially and make
academic institutions more diverse so as to stimulate the academic growth of all
students attending the institutions.

One of the most important lessons that I learned in high school was that the world
was a much larger place than I had initially anticipated.  My introduction to diverse
social and intellectual environments gave me a clearer perspective into my own
cultural traditions.  My own experiences became richer and much more clearly
defined. In a very insightful way, I also became more cognizant of my place in the
world and my responsibility to my fellow human beings.

The purpose of The Cinderblock Foundation is synonymous with the goals of my
old high school--to develop independent thinkers, who are autonomous, morally
grounded, and committed to serving the community.

Therefore, it is the goal of this foundation to pair students from urban areas that are
ready to learn and want to grow intellectually and serve the community, with
institutions that are committed to education and to the development of moral leaders.
